Couple must pay to 'cleanse' temple after, uh, religious experience

3/9/2013

Maybe your tired idea of romance is still a humdrum candlelight dinner. But, really, there's nothing like touring sacred Hindu shrines to make lovers itchy to knock off a piece. So the only ones more shocked than authorities in the Balinese village of Saraseda when tourists Urmas and Katrin Silman were discovered mid-shag in the town pura were the frisky couple, whose reaction was something like, "Was that wrong?" After all, there were no signs posted warning "No sex allowed," as you'd normally find in a church, synogogue or mosque. Amazingly, that alibi resonated with local elders, who merely made the Silmans cough up $2,000 for a cleansing ritual and, yes, are mulling that signage. [Source]
