Girl with Down syndrome had legs duct taped by school, parents say
2/5/2013It's a parent's nightmare: confronting the possibility that those entrusted with your child's welfare might have endangered it. That's the reality that the Searcy family of Wayne Township, Ind., is facing, after 8-year-old daughter Shaylyn, who has Down syndrome, returned from school with her feet bound together with duct tape. The school bus driver told the parents Shaylyn had been brought to the bus in a wheelchair and carried onboard. Nate Searcy took his daughter back to the school to investigate and said it took 30 minutes to cut away the tape. The Searcys say that school officials have worked with them in the past to deal with Shaylyn's behavioral issues; the school says it will make a statement following an investigation. [Source]
