Turns out Massachusetts' highway safety chief is a terrible driver

11/19/2012

It turns out the Massachusetts highway safety director has a little problem: She's incredibly unsafe on highways. Sheila Burgess was the state's top road-safety officer, until a newspaper discovered her driving record includes seven accidents, four speeding violations and two failures to stop for a police officer. A former Democratic Party fundraising consultant, Burgess had no experience in public safety, transportation or government administration when hired back in 2007 for the $87,000-a-year job. Gov. Deval Patrick has said he will reassign Burgess when she is back from medical leave following — yes, you guessed it — a car accident. [Source]
