Sheriff says KKK outfit was in reference to 'Blazing Saddles'

6/24/2012

Note to future politicians: If you are considering a career in government, do not, we repeat, do not don a Ku Klux Klan robe for a Halloween party. The advice seems obvious but apparently slipped by Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison during his younger years, when he was captured on film wearing the notorious white hood and gown. Garrison, who is currently seeking re-election, was forced to respond this week when photos surfaced from the party 20+ years ago. Although sects of the KKK are still active in Georgia, the sheriff assured constituents he has no ties to the hate group and only wore the suit in homage to Mel Brooks' satire "Blazing Saddles," calling the pictures a ploy by his opponent to damage his reputation.
