Mom who lost infant son turns grief into giving for low-income girls
2/5/2013We hope your heartstrings are in good shape, because this will tug right at them. Sherrill Garrett's 7-month-old infant son Jacob died unexpectedly in May of last year. Seeing Sherrill wracked with grief, a friend made an offhand comment that changed Sherrill's life. "In 15 years," said the friend, "you’ll be wondering who Jake would have taken to prom." That comment helped give Sherrill's life a new purpose. She began a tiny charity to accept donated prom dresses, to give girls from low-income families the chance to enjoy a night of glamour in a dress of their dreams. The organization is called Dresses for Jake's Dates, and now has over 600 likes on Facebook. [Source]
