Shock survey says Americans are actually happy right now

5/14/2012

How happy do you feel right now? If last month was anything to go by, you are feeling pretty good. The U.S.'s "Emotional Health Index" score in April was 79.9, the highest it has been since Gallup began keeping smile score in January 2008. Based on approximately 30,000 interviews with American adults, the index recorded its lowest score in Dec. 2008, after the Sept. 2008 financial crisis. We've apparently cheered up since, even surpassing our pre-economy meltdown emotional health levels, with the percentage of Americans who reported they didn't "worry a lot ... yesterday" improving notably. Drawn your own optimistic conclusions below.
