Snow artist creates his masterpieces one step at a time
11/21/2012Simon Beck's canvases can cover three soccer fields and his creations can be erased overnight. But that doesn't stop the English mapmaker-turned-artist from planning his circles or cubes or hexagons or whatever incredible patterns pop into his head. Then, his feet go to work, strapped into a pair of snowshoes and shuffling about the snow fields at the French ski resort of Les Arcs, aided by an orienteering compass and the determination of Sisyphus. A design that might take 10 hours to complete can disappear with the next heavy snowfall, but Beck plods on, though he admits his art can be seen as "a waste of good skiing time." [Source]
