How come Aussies get all the nice things, like total solar eclipses?

11/12/2012

It takes about 24 hours to fly to Australia from the U.S., so if you want to catch this year's solar eclipse, better make a dash for the airport now. Best place to watch the show? Queensland, Australia, where residents of Cairns can watch the moon totally block the sun for two whole minutes — the first total eclipse in more than two years. Even if you leave now, don't bother going to sleep when you get there: Your solar filter will need to be trained on the horizon by sunrise Wednesday morning. Here's hoping it doesn't rain so we can check out all those funky photos later this week. [Source]
