Solar storm could create epic Aurora Borealis tonight

7/15/2012

Then sun gods have been angry this week and their massive solar storm may result in a little treat for stargazers tonight. Scientists are predicting that the solar flare that went down July 12 could create mesmerizing Aurora Borealis for viewers this evening. The lights, also known as the Northern Lights, may be visible at southern latitudes that rarely glimpse the astral phenomenon. Large swaths of the northern U.S., from New England to Idaho and as far south as Northern California or even Alabama, may catch a sighting. Incoming solar plasma has already triggered awe-inspiring geomagnetic storms as a result of the celestial events, and stargazers around North America are psyched to see what this one brings.
