Fiery looping rain on the sun in NASA video is amazing, and humungous
2/22/2013NASA's description of this incredible time lapse video explains how it depicts a "moderately powerful" solar flare on the sun, which was enhanced by shooting solar material known as a "coronal mass ejection" (sounds painful), and followed by "coronal rain" – charged plasma moving along the paths of strong magnetic fields. This beautiful video's title is perhaps more catchy: "Fiery Looping Rain on the Sun." At the 1:10 mark, teeny tiny Earth is shown to scale for a little perspective. Wowsas.
