Mysterious jelly makes nature reserve significantly more interesting
2/19/2013Even after this weekend's meteor showers, the universe isn't done splattering us with space stuff. Scientists are warning visitors to a nature reserve in Somerset, England, to avoid touching a weird "jelly" that seems to have fallen from the sky. They think "the mysterious green slime" might be so-called "astral jelly" that's often discovered following meteor strikes — like the one in central Russia last week that injured more than 1,000 people. "Whatever it is, it's very weird," said a manager at the nature reserve. Other speculation suggests the substance may be "a form of cyanobacteria" or, alternatively, the "remains of the regurgitated innards of amphibians." [Source]
