Spain wants all of its formerly sunken treasure back

3/17/2012

The government of Spain, apparently unfamiliar with the "finders keepers, losers weepers" rule, is suing a U.S.-based expedition company for allegedly keeping some of the booty it scavenged from an 1804 shipwreck. Spain already has most of the treasure from the Nuesta Senora de Las Mercedes, which was sunk by a British warship off the coast of Portugal, but claims that Odyssey Marine Exploration has stashed away some of the gold in Gibraltar, where families of the descendants of the owners of ship are claiming it's their rightful property, complicating matters even further.
