Sharing is caring in Spain, where hundreds split mega $1.1B lottery
1/7/2013That noise you hear from across the Atlantic Ocean is the sound of hundreds of champagne corks popping in Spain. That's because its El Nino lottery has just doled out more than $1.1 billion to folks with winning tickets in five different regions of the country. The idea of the annual lottery is to share as much of the winning prize, with the highest individual jackpot paying no more than $260,240. The cash-strapped government also profits, because anyone pocketing more $3,250 in prize money has to pay a 20 percent tax. Everyone’s a winner. [Source]
