Get your mind out of the gutter — this billboard's selling sunglasses9/6/2012
If you spotted a billboard that said "Happy to Sit on Your Face," would you immediately think, "Oh, that's probably advertising a pair of sunglasses" (right after you did a whiplash-inducing double take)? SPY Optic hopes so, banking on that cheeky double entendre to sell its new "Happy Lens" eyewear line. "Is it clever marketing or is it maybe a half-step too far?" Jerome Stocks, mayor of Encinitas, Calif., says. "For me, frankly, it's pretty damn clever." Sadly, not everyone in Encinitas is as cool as Stocks. "An underwhelming minority made enough noise that the [billboard] management company decided … to remove it," SPY said in a statement. Guess it'll be "Happy to Sit in a Warehouse" from now on.
