Real Steel: Starbucks introduces $450 metal gift cards

If you thought Starbucks had run out of ways to gouge customers (recall that $7 cup of coffee it recently unveiled), steel yourself for their latest promotion — a $450 gift card. But not a dowdy plastic one. Only 5,000 of the made-of-steel Starbucks cards will be made available (Thursday to Starbucks members; Friday to the general public), and can only be purchased on luxury e-retailer Gilt.com, guaranteeing a “look-who-I-am” cachet. The cards contain a value of $400, along with an added $50 for the cost of making the card, and the bearer has “gold-level membership benefits.”[Source]
