State rep forgets there are religions besides Christianity
7/7/2012One Louisiana state legislator found her foot in her mouth after realizing too late that "religious" does not necessarily mean "Christian." Rep. Valarie Hodges of Louisiana vociferously supported Gov. Bobby Jindal's push for a controversial voucher program that would allow state funds to pay for private religious schools. But little did she know that HB976, now signed into law, extends this privilege to private schools of any religious affiliation — such as Muslim schools. Now that she's aware of this, she's not so sure whether this bill is the best thing for the state's education system. Hodges told a local newspaper that looking closely to the details has revealed "more questions than answers about the long-term impact these changes could potentially have." We think she should have done her homework earlier on.
Would you support vouchers for religious schools?
