Sen. Colbert? South Carolina voters say yes in new poll
12/11/2012If Stuart Smalley can become Sen. Al Franken, why can't America’s most beloved fake pundit go to Washington? When Sen. Jim DeMint, a South Carolina Republican, announced he was leaving office to run the Heritage Foundation, Stephen Colbert (who grew up in the state) lobbied for the job on "The Colbert Report."{ It turns out South Carolina voters are open to the idea — a new PPP poll found that Palmetto State residents favor Colbert over other contenders, with 20 percent picking him as their top choice. His actual chances? Pretty much zero. The state’s Republican governor (and former "Colbert Report" guest) Nikki Haley responded on Facebook with a message that amounted to "Thanks, but no thanks."
