Stephen Colbert has a way of skewering the delightfully skewerable, often by letting the subjects of his attention do most of the work themselves. But with this "People Who Are Destroying America" segment, not only does he expose some small-town Vicco, Ky., folks as big-hearted and fair, he skewered Americans who buy into the stereotype that small-town folks are backward. In January, Vicco became one of the smallest towns in the country to pass an ordinance forbidding discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The town's mayor, Johnny Cummings, who is gay, led the way. At times belly-laugh funny, and other times poignant, this segment just may restore your faith in humanity.
