Major on-the-job blunder sets convicted murderer free in Chicago
2/1/2013If you work in the Chicago court system, today isn't the day to ask for a raise. A convicted murderer was accidentally released Wednesday after a courtroom or corrections worker made the on-the-job mistake of a lifetime. Steven Robbins, who should be serving a 60-year sentence for murder, was taken from an Indiana prison to Illinois for a court hearing. But instead of being returned to jail, he was set loose onto the streets of Chicago. Authorities have known he was gone since Thursday but didn't immediately tell the public. "We were trying to hit all the spots where we thought he might be before he became aware that we were looking for him," a sheriff's spokesman said. [Source]
