Ho, ho, whoa... Dresden bakes more Christmas cake than anybody needs
12/10/2012Got a hankering for a slice of Christmas cake? Head to Germany's Stollenfest in Dresden where this three-ton Stollen has just rolled through the center of town at the annual Christmas market. Never heard of Stollen? It’s a yeast-y Xmas cake packed with dried fruit and citrus peel. Experts slather the loaf in butter and roll it in powdered sugar the minute it emerges from the oven. For weeks, Dresden's bakers have been whipping up batches and this 11-foot-long and three-foot-high behemoth is what happens when you glue them all together with butter and sugar. Worried about wastage? The money raised from selling the massive slices ($5 each) is all going to a charity for families and children dealing with cancer.
