Struggling Baltimore eager to sell historic landmarks
3/27/2012How much is civic pride worth? In Baltimore, the price is negotiable. The financially struggling city has made it known that it's willing to part with at least 15 historic sites for the right deal. Among the properties that could be sold is the Phoenix Shot Tower, once the tallest structure in the country. The city says many of the sites are abandoned or in disrepair and it would be better off cashing in on the real estate they sit on. There is, however, a significant roadblock -- 12 of the sites are protected historic landmarks, and prospective buyers would need permission to move forward with any plans.
