Master rebater pays for college by being a smart shopper
9/14/2012
When you tell someone they're 'mailing it in,' it typically means they're super lazy. And then there's Jonathan Hood, whose willingness to (literally) mail it in earned him enough money to pay for a semester at Auburn University. The PhD student is a rebate addict, constantly scouring the 'net for deals that will reward him with a cash back. Using this system, he says he's paid his phone bill with rebates for the past two years, but the 250 prepaid debit cards and rebate checks that he cashed in to play his tuition is—so far—his masterpiece. Hood owed less than $1,000 out of pocket on the cost of this semester. We'd call that smart shopping. [Source]
