Student who helped mom with cancer will graduate after all
4/17/2012The Carrollton (Ohio) High School student who had been banned from walking at graduation for missing too many days to take care of his sick mother will walk after all after Carrollton school officials reversed the school's decision yesterday. As we reported, Austin Fisher lives with his mom, Teresa, who was battling Stage IV cancer in the fall. Austin missed 16 days of school taking her to and from treatments and helping her at home, two more than the school's 14-day unexcused absence policy. An online "Let Fish Walk" campaign went viral after the story appeared on local television, leading a stunned board to quickly reverse the decision.
The Internet wins again.
Did the board make the right decision to let Austin walk?
