Study says 57 percent of teen girls in US are virgins

Parents of teenage girls will no doubt find this comforting. New research shows a majority of America's teenage girls haven't had sex, and that those who do have sex are using the most effective types of contraception. Researchers with the Centers for Disease Control surveyed girls aged 15-19 and found that, between 2006 and 2010, 57 percent of them had never had sexual intercourse, up from 49 percent back in 1995. The birth rate among teens also dropped to 34 births per 1,000 teens, a 44 percent drop over thelast two decades. However, that figure still puts the U.S. rate above those of other developed countries.
