Parents' plan to organize straights-only prom isn't going so well
2/12/2013Not so surprisingly, a plan to organize a "traditional" prom that would exclude gay students isn't receiving a warm reception. After staff from Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Ind., confirmed that "anybody" is welcome to participate in the prom, scheduled for April 27, some parents met at a local church to organize a separate prom for straight students only. "We don't agree with [homosexuality] and it's offensive to us," said Diana Medley, one of the parents behind the campaign. The church's pastor distanced himself from the parents' group, who were also criticized by fellow Sullivan residents and high-profile gay-rights advocates including columnist Dan Savage. [Source]
