Summer box office bombs big time

Wow, and you thought last year's movie selection sucked? Well turns out this summer's offerings attracted even less people to the theater than last, even though there were actually more films released this time around. The figures, tallied heading into Labor Day weekend, show that this summer's box office raked in $4.04 billion, which is down 6.7 percent from 2011. A total of 209 movies were churned out in the season – seven more than the previous summer. Everything but the green-lighting of crap ideas seems to be getting blamed for the poor result – the Olympics, the shabby economy, the Aurora theater shootings and that old classic, the weather! [Source]
