'Super-Earth' planet could support alien life, scientists say

11/8/2012

The search for life on another planet just took a giant leap forward. Astronomers say a newly discovered exoplanet, or "super-Earth" — unremarkably named HD 40307g, not far from Earth itself, cosmically speaking, and seven times larger than our own planet —  may have a climate and atmosphere "just right" to support life. "Just as Goldilocks liked her porridge to be neither too hot nor too cold but just right," study co-author Hugh Jones said. "This planet or indeed any moons that it has lie in an orbit comparable to Earth, increasing the probability of it being habitable." Cue the spooky alien music.
