Supermarket charges woman $167 for jar of peanut butter
4/12/2012We've all heard of price gouging, but $167 for a jar of peanut butter? That's what a San Diego woman paid recently for a tube of extra crunchy Skippy at her local Albertson's grocery store. The woman says she got a "bad feeling" after making the purchase, and, when she looked at the receipt the next day, noticed the error. Though Albertson's executives have apologized for the mistake and issued her a refund, the incident has drawn attention to the problem of overcharging at grocery stores, which analysts say happens as much as 20 percent of the time, either by mistake or on purpose.
