Survey: 40% of N.C. waiters think blacks don’t tip well

A new study reveals that 40 percent of waiters in North Carolina admit to discriminating against black customers because they believe black patrons don't tip as well and are less polite than their white counterparts. The study surveyed 200 servers, 87 percent of whom are white, at 18 different restaurants throughout North Carolina. Not only do nearly a third of servers acknowledge changing their work habits for black customers, but 90 percent said they had seen coworkers gossiping about customers' race. "[This] shows that race continues to be an issue in our society," the survey's co-author told the Daily Mail.
