Swimmer stops university boat race to protest elitism
4/8/2012Life in England stops for the traditional rowing of the Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge, but it took a protestor to stop the race itself. Trenton Oldfield, 35, posted a manifesto on his blog "Elitism Leads to Tyranny" before jumping in the Thames and swimming between the competing boats, forcing a restart of the 158th edition of the race, which ended wildly with a broken Oxford oar, a late Cambridge win and a rower taken away by ambulance after collapsing. Oldfield was taken away too, but by police. Among other offences, he might be charged with having no sense of irony. This "anti-elitism" protester was educated at the London School of Economics and describes himself in his LinkedIn profile as "rich."
What would be a more effective means of protest?
