Swiss chow down on delicacy made out of cats and dogs
1/2/2013Heading to Switzerland to sample some delicious-sounding mostbröckli? Might as well go on "Fear Factor" and eat maggots. "Mostbröckli" is the elegant name for a marinated Swiss delicacy that's usually made with beef, but also occasionally whipped up with dogs and cats. Yep, the peaceful Swiss regularly consume puppies and kitties (saving the pelts for coats or bedspreads), and it's entirely legal unless the critters are slaughtered inhumanely. Selling it commercially is banned. "There's nothing odd about it," one farmer told a Swiss newspaper. "Meat is meat." The dog meat of choice: a breed that's related to the Rottweiler. Shrewd foodies who raise and eat our furry friends wisely chose to remain anonymous for the newspaper survey. [Source]
