Night Light: Sydney Opera House goes red for World AIDS Day
12/1/2012What hits all the high notes and is red all over? Why, the Sydney Opera House, of course. In support of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, the famed venue (along with the equally iconic Harbour Bridge) is bathed in red, lighting up in crimson hues and also featuring a fireworks display. Sydney was the first of dozens of major cities to commemorate the day, which honors the victims of the disease, by bathing major landmarks in red. The memorials take place as the United Nations announced that it hopes to reduce new infections by 50 percent by 2015.
