Sydney's algae now turning waters neon blue in nightly light show
11/29/2012Oh, algae. You're toxic, but you're fun. Sydney's beaches, as if they weren't beautiful enough already, have been putting on a light show for the past few nights in Australia. The same algae that turned Sydney waters red this week are giving the waves a stunning neon blue glow at night. According to a University of Technology Sydney marine microbiologist, the blue luminescence occurs when the algal bloom is agitated by moving water. [Source]
