Teacher shows kids do enjoy empty boxes as much as flashy toys

11/21/2012

Do kids really need the latest and greatest toys and learning tools to succeed and learn? According to Pete Kaser, a teacher in Wellington, Ohio, no, they don't. Kaser made the bold move to replace all the toys and learning materials in his classroom with things like boring cardboard boxes. And it turns out the kids just didn't care. In fact, they thrived. Kaser said some of the quieter kids all of a sudden turned into leaders as the group came up with ideas on what to build and do with the raw materials. At the end of the day, the kids had not only learned to work together, negotiate and problem solve, they had reportedly built some cool igloos and pirate ships. [Source]
