Teacher's mean 'award' doesn't sit well with kid, mom
5/30/2012An Arizona mom says her 8-year-old daughter was humiliated when she was given a "Catastrophe Award" from her teacher. Christina Valdez says her daughter, Cassandra Garcia, was given the questionable honor for "the most excuses for not having homework." Valdez said that Cassandra was laughed at in class and she was "[blown] off" when she confronted the girl's principal about it. Of coooourse a psychologist has weighed in and she sides with Cassandra's mom. "That isn't an award," Sheri Bauman said, noting that "being humiliated ... is counterproductive to learning." Another child will take the catastrophe crown next year; Garcia says her daughter will transfer to another school.
Was the 'award' inappropriate or is the mom being too sensitive?
