Teachers earn $44K per year to their union bosses' $500K
7/15/2012In a year where anti-union legislation forced a recall election in Wisconsin and collective bargaining has played a meaningful role in campaign dialogue around the country, a new report has given powerful new fodder for union opponents. According to recent reports, the average U.S. teacher’s salary is $44,000 a year; however, their top two union bosses make nearly $500,000 a year. For those of you without a calculator handy, they get paid roughly 11 times more to lobby on behalf of the workers than the workers themselves do, and those two salaries, which represent a 20 percent pay increase since last year, come as everyday teachers see pay freezes and impending layoffs.
