Team honors MLB usher who saved kids from vicious dogs
5/2/2012The Washington Nationals gave longtime usher Andre Hawthorne the night off on Tuesday. The Section 116 ticket-taker was honored by team officials before the game -- and the D.C. mayor declared it "Andre Hawthorne Day" -- because of Hawthorne's courage and quick thinking when he saw some neighborhood children being attacked by a pair of "vicious dogs." Without regard for his own safety, Hawthorne grabbed a kitchen knife and fought off the angry animals. Although the kids were able to escape, Hawthorne left with some serious bite marks on his arm. "Automatically, I said, 'I got to sacrifice myself,'" he said. "I'm no hero." With all respect, sir, we disagree.
Would you have been as brave as Hawthorne?
