Teasing in school locker room leads to murder 50 years later

6/17/2012

When Norman Johnson pulled a jockstrap over the head of a student sports team manager in high school, he had to have thought it was a harmless stunt and not a humiliation that would lead to his murder 50 years later. Now 73-year-old Carl Ericsson has been sentenced to life in a South Dakota prison for shooting his locker-room nemesis in the face after ringing the doorbell at Johnson's house. A psychiatrist attested that depression and anxiety fueled the long-held grudge, but Ericsson admitted that the shooting stemmed "from something that happened over 50 years ago. It was apparently in my subconscious." Noted one of Johnson's daughters, "He was just jealous of Dad his whole life."
