Teenager risks her life to save 25 horses from a 5-alarm fire
4/14/2012Fifteen-year-old girls famously love horses, but probably none of them as much as 15-year-old Madison Wallraf of Illinois, who risked her life to guide 25 horses out of a burning stable. In answer to her stepfather's command to stay safely at his side, she dialed 911 on her cell phone, threw it into his hands and dashed into the 20,000-square-foot stable that was engulfed by the flames of a five-alarm fire. The girl was knocked down by the frightened animals, but guided them out two by two into the hands of other rescuers, and then returned again and again to save more four-legged lives. Madison wasn't able to save 18 of the animals, but her efforts are another startling testimony to the powerful bond between horses and humans.
