Teens paying for fake braces because metal mouths are cool1/2/2013
For anyone whose teen years involved a small fortune of metal welded to their teeth, the trend of wearing faux braces must seem bizarre. Teens in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia are reportedly paying around $100 for fake fashion braces, with Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse designs being particularly popular. Despite some health concerns – the fake braces can drop loose pieces down the throat, may contain lead and have reportedly caused two deaths – this awkward trend is thought to be a status symbol because real braces cost so much. Silly kids, this time next year it'll be all bowl cut wigs and stick-on acne. [Source]
