Teens coach Little League team to district title
6/26/2012This one reads like it's straight out of an inspirational after-school special: The downtrodden team that had no coach. The unlikely candidates they found. The smirks, skeptics, and finally soaring, improbable victory. Yet for the San Clemente Little League team, which just finished off its season with a 16-9 record, the fairy tale was a true story. After no one wanted to coach the team, they rallied together and got approval to be led by two high school freshmen. The boy coaches were 14 and 15 years old and not much bigger than the players. Folks laughed as they started out losing streak, but by midseason they were improving, and an epic play during the final inning of a championship game turned them into hometown sports heroes.
