The Oatmeal inexplicably raises $1 million for Tesla museum
8/24/2012Crowd-funding continues to post ridiculously amazing figures. Remember when a fundraiser meant a bake sale or a car wash? Now, it means millions of dollars -- at least for Web-savvy operators with a built-in following. That’s the situation over at web comic The Oatmeal, which announced that it has raised more than a million dollars for founder Matthew Inman’s pet project, a museum devoted to brilliant-but-increasingly-not-so-underrated scientist Nikola Tesla -- specifically, for “ turning this land [Tesla’s estate on Long Island, New York] into something worthy of Tesla's awesomeness.” And they raised that in nine days.
