Amputee in wheelchair fatally shot for threatening cops with pen

Police in Texas shot a double amputee in a wheelchair yesterday who was allegedly threatening an officer with a pen. The Twittersphere responded with a mixture of sadness and outrage after learning Brian Claunch, a schizophrenic man with just one leg and one arm, was killed for threatening cops with what turned out to be a small writing utensil. Tweets abounded like "Killer Cop at it again" by @RWWWB Exec, and "I wonder if he was black" by @msatonienne. (He wasn't, BTW.) Adding to the Houston Police Department's PR nightmare is that the cop who killed Claunch — Officer Matt Marin — had already shot and killed another man on duty in 2009.
