Texas proves everything's bigger there, including the will to secede
11/13/2012Will we soon need passports to visit Texas? You know how we told you that, since the election, a bunch of people started petitions on the White House petitions website "We the People," asking that their states be allowed to secede from the United States? Texas has now become the first state to reach the 25,000 signatures needed for the administration to consider the matter and respond. (Some other states are close to that threshold.) Secession is unlikely to happen — Texas Gov. Rick Perry says he doesn't stand behind the petition, which now has more than 60,000 signatures. Still, way to take that Lone Star State nickname a bit too literally, guys. [Source]
