Thief returns gold rings to owner with apology, 15 years later

1/13/2013

Add this one to the "three cheers for humanity!" file. An Imgur user posted the above image — a snapshot of a mysterious letter sent, along with four gold rings, to a Mr. and Mrs. Riphagen. These aren't just any old rings, though. The anonymous sender explains in this long, thoughtful note, that he or she stole the rings from a party at the Riphagens' house 15 years earlier. Though stealing rings while a guest in someone’s home is admittedly pretty low, this thief-with-a-conscience manages to warm our hearts, at least a little, with such heartfelt words of apology and remorse. Oh, glorious humanity. [Source]
