Thief tried to flush stolen cash down a toilet at KFC, cops say

For some criminals, the saying "crime does not pay" is meant in a figurative sense, but for Daron Thomas the platitude proved immediately true. Thomas allegedly took the trouble of robbing a "Check Into Cash" store in Des Moines and then when spotted by an officer, hurried into a KFC, rushed into the bathroom and then, according to police, started flushing the money he'd just stolen down the toilet. He didn't even get the chance to buy a KFC Snacker with his ill-gotten gains. Step one was "steal the money," step two was "flush it down a KFC toilet." Thomas was arrested, charged with first-degree robbery and is being held on a bond worth over $25,000.
