Idiot thieves steal $3.2M in artifacts, forget where they stashed them

2/9/2013

It's a wonder Lee Wildman and Adrian Stanton didn't mislay the keys to the getaway car. As it was, they merely lost the loot: a 243-year-old jade bowl and a porcelain figurine valued at $3.2 million they lifted from the museum at Durham University in England. Wildman's agitated search for the misplaced goods in a waste area where they were stashed (and later found) aroused the suspicions of a witness, leading to the pair's arrest. Now, they'll serve lengthy prison sentences after being scolded by judge Christopher Prince for "crass ineptitude." The thieves were also seen on security video casing their target, though Wildman insisted, "It's not a crime to visit a museum." [Source]
