Think tank likens believers in global warming to mass killers
5/5/2012A conservative think tank has come under fire for a billboard campaign comparing people who believe in climate change to mass murderers and terrorists including Ted Kaczynski, Charles Manson and -- on the list to be featured -- Osama bin Laden. The Heartland Institute has installed posters along thoroughfares displaying images of various evildoers next the words, "I still believe in global warming. Do you?"
The ad campaign has been criticized as beyond the pale, and groups on the left have labeled the posters "disgusting and vile." Heartland says the idea is to illustrate that climate change is not a mainstream belief but rather a nutty concept shared by a fringe group.

Update: Heartland has pulled the campaign hours after the digital billboards went live. "We know that our billboard angered and disappointed many of Heartland's friends and supporters, but we hope they understand what we were trying to do with this experiment," representatives said in a statement.
