Five crew members killed during awful safety drill on cruise ship

2/10/2013

A cruel tragedy has struck a cruise ship in the Canary Islands on Sunday, as five crew members were killed during a safety drill. The ugly coincidence occurred when a team aboard the Thomson Majesty was reportedly playing out a mock rescue exercise. A lifeboat cable snapped, and the emergency rescue boat fell 65 feet into the ocean and flipped upside-down, trapping the crew members underneath. Five people were killed — three Indonesian employees, one Filipino and one Ghanaian — and three more were injured in the accident aboard the ship, which is run by the British travel group TUI Travel.
