Researchers can now kill cancer with a tiny molecule
2/9/2013At some point, science changed from a compeition of who can build the biggest machine to a race to find the smallest solution. Case in point: rather than relying on traditional treatments for cancer, like chemotherapy or removing the tumor, researchers may have developed a new solution for cancer that's just one tiny molecule. The molecule, known as TIC10, fights cancer by activating TRAIL, which somehow stands for tumor-necrosis-factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand, a protein already in your body that kills cancerous cells while leaving healthy cells untouched. So far, the drug has only been tested on mice, but some researchers are optimistic that this approach may work in people. [Source]
